How to Use Scan & Compare?

Scan & Compare lets you scan the barcode of a product in store and see what it costs at Coles, Woolworths and ALDI. Here is where to find it and how to use it.

Scan a product

  1. Open the WiseList app and tap Grocery in the bottom navigation bar.
  2. Tap the search bar at the top.
  3. Tap the barcode icon at the right-hand end of the search bar. The first time, allow WiseList to use your camera.
  4. Point the camera at the barcode on the product. Hold the phone close and keep the whole barcode across the line on screen.
  5. In a dim aisle, tap the torch button to switch on your phone’s light.

The product opens as soon as the barcode is read. You do not need to press a button.

Compare the price

The Item details screen shows the product and its price at each supermarket that sells it. From here you can:

  • add the product to your grocery list;
  • switch on Watch this product to add it to your Watch List.

If the barcode is not recognised

WiseList opens a page called Help us add this product. You can send two photos of the product, or go back and search for it by name instead.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Scan & Compare in the app?

Tap Grocery, tap the search bar, then tap the barcode icon at the right-hand end of the search bar.

Which barcodes can I scan?

The standard barcode printed on packaged groceries. Loose fruit and vegetables have no barcode, and items weighed and labelled in store, such as deli goods, may not be recognised.

Why is the price different from the shelf ticket?

WiseList shows each supermarket’s price for your state. A price in your local store can differ, so check the ticket in front of you.

Why can’t I see an ALDI price?

ALDI sells many products under its own brands. WiseList shows an ALDI price only where ALDI sells the product or WiseList can match an equivalent, and only in states where ALDI has stores.

The camera will not open.

Check that WiseList is allowed to use the camera in your phone’s settings, then try again.

Is this the same as Scan Receipt?

No. Scan & Compare reads a product barcode to check its price. Scan Receipt reads a photo of your receipt and adds what you bought to your fridge and pantry.
